Thirst

The 11th instalment of the detective series, full of unexpected twists, Harry's sarcastic remarks and his eccentric behaviour

Jo Nesbø continues in the same vein he started with The Snowman and further developed in The Leopard and subsequent books. The Thirst once again delivers a fast-paced, dramatic plot full of surprising twists, Harry's sarcastic comments and his distinctive behaviour.
In Oslo, several women who have arranged dates through the dating app Tinder are murdered in quick succession. The investigating team, newly led by Katrine Bratt, is baffled by the manner in which the victims were killed, and by the fact that some of their blood has disappeared from each crime scene. Chief of Police Mikael Bellman needs to solve the case as quickly as possible so he can climb even higher up the career ladder.
Therefore, he calls back Harry Hole, who has since moved to Holmenkollen with Rakel and wanted to enjoy a happy married life and quiet teaching at the police academy. However, given the brutality of the murders, he is granted none of that. Circumstances force him to set up an alternative investigation team and start on the trail. But getting to the truth is not at all simple, especially when life presents him with a fundamental dilemma at a certain point: whether to prioritise his family or the investigation.

What they wrote about the book The Thirst

“The Thirst is a joy to read. Nesbø plays with words and with the reader, avoids clichés, and his style is varied and rhythmic. Scenes transition elegantly from one to the next; the author has already done much of the screenwriter's work. This also applies to the way Nesbø presents the story—in concrete terms, with many details, everything is easy to imagine.”

Romsdals Budstikke, Norway

“You won't find such a driving force elsewhere.”

Tvedestrandsposten, Norway

“Jo Nesbø has a talent for writing novels with both a criminal and a psychological plot, in which the solving of the murder is always based on the honest work of the investigators. The Thirst is good. Very, very good.”

Bogblogger.dk, Denmark

“Even in the eleventh instalment of his most successful detective series, Nesbø clearly shows why he is among the biggest stars of the genre. The Thirst is essentially missing nothing. It has drive, a good dose of suspense, original humour, and reads so easily and quickly that you'll hardly notice the end is approaching.”
