Therapeutic approach to oral lichen planus - new trends, new solutions
Oral medicine is a prototype of an interdisciplinary medical (dental) specialization. Doctors of virtually all specialties may encounter patients with oral mucosal diseases of various etiologies and severity. In the Czech Republic, there is an indisputable fact that there is a shortage of specialists in oral medicine, and many patients with diseases of the oral mucosa seek out doctors of various specialties. The growing number of patients in need of qualified diagnostics and therapy of mucosal diseases increases the demands on individual outpatient departments.
Oral lichen planus is one of the most common diseases of the oral mucosa. Despite high professional interest and increasing knowledge about this chronic mucosal disease, symptomatic treatment of oral lichen planus is often a challenge.
The purpose of the publication is to provide factual and detailed information on the therapy of oral lichen planus, which will be used by physicians across medical specialties. The text is supplemented with numerous practical tips and rich visual documentation from the authors' clinical practice. The monograph is based on evidence-based medicine and the author' s experience gained during a research internship at the prestigious American Mayo Clinic. Co-authored by distinguished professor emeritus of dermatology Roy Steele Rogers III, M. D. (Department of Dermatology, Mayo Clinic, Arizona), one of the founders of modern oral medicine in the USA.
The monograph is intended primarily for dentists, dermatologists, otorhinolaryngology, immunologists, general practitioner, but also for dental hygiene students and senior medical students, who are interested in the issue being addressed.
