In war he easily recognized the enemy, but at home it could be anyone.
Returning home in his RAF uniform and with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, the widowed Czech pilot and war hero Antonín Madera has yet to face his toughest tests. By a twist of fate, he becomes the manager of a large estate in the Czech-German border region, from where the German population had been expelled shortly before and where a number of dubious existences and unscrupulous gold diggers are now retreating. A horse lover and one of the few returning natives, he has to deal not only with a bunch of rhodocapsuled young men playing cowboy, but also with the advances of a whole host of envious war criminals and new mocipans. And in all this, to put on its feet a plundered homestead that does not pay much and where everything is scarce, even ordinary water.
