The voice of the cuckoo

A powerful and gripping story based on a true story The Voice of the Cuckoo by Hana Marie Körner

A thrilling story about the search for a secret that is only whispered about even in the closest family circle.
The book takes us not only to the border region in 1938, but also to the very beginning of the twentieth century - to the milieu of the Prague elite.
A story about the unraveling of complex human relationships stretching deep into the past. It begins just before World War II, but its roots go much deeper. The fate of two completely different women, their approach to motherhood and life in general, is the cornerstone of the narrative. All this against the background of events that were crucial for the history of young Czechoslovakia.
Irma is the only child of a ministerial official and a bohemian mother. A sweet, well-mannered girl, carefully protected by her family from the evils of the outside world. However, it only takes one misstep to change life fundamentally. The end of the First World War and the emerging crisis also played a role.
Two decades later, another young girl runs away from home. The disagreement with his parents is so great that he decides to live on his own. Even though she hasn't finished any school, she has managed to get a decent job and build some status. But times are not favourable, the clouds of the Second World War are gathering over Europe.

Hana Marie Körnerová

She has been writing since childhood. into a drawer, the first novel Lord of the Mountains was published in 1993. This six-volume saga charting the history of a French noble family immediately won her an immediate readership. France of the 18th and 19th centuries is the backdrop the author uses most often for her historical-adventure stories. The best known and most popular novel, besides The Lord of the Mountains, is a true story from post-war Czechoslovakia called The Valley of Chamomile or the five-part historical saga Carriage to the Unknown. The period thriller Andean Face served as a model for Zdeněk Troška's film of the same name.
