Gereon Rath is back, this time with the Vaterland File
July 1932, the Berlin police face a mystery: in a freight elevator in the "House of Waterland", the legendary temple of entertainment on Potsdamer Platz, a man lies dead. All indications are that he drowned.
Commissioner Gereon Rath is not happy about the new case, he has enough trouble as it is. His investigation to catch an unknown assassin hasn't budged in weeks. And the fact that his great love, Charlotte "Charly" Ritter, is returning from a year's study in Paris and has joined the homicide squad as a commissioner in waiting for Alex doesn't make things any easier.
The dead man from Potsdamer Platz appears to be one of a series of murders whose trail leads far away, all the way to the Polish border. Here, Rath meets the silent eastern Prušaks, illegally burned liquor and the intricacies of the local nature. Resistance against the Berlin investigator grows when he stumbles upon a long-kept secret.
