The Treasure of Onion

The gates have opened and humanity is once again in a colonization frenzy... After the events of the alien protomolecule and the opening of the ring gates, humans have a thousand uninhabited worlds within reach. Settlers are streaming into the cosmic frontier in search of a new life - or fleeing the old one. However, on the planet Ilus, nicknamed New Earth, a conflict soon breaks out among the first inhabitants and threatens to escalate into open war. Jim Holden and the crew of his ship Rosinante are there to prevent a clash between the resilient refugees from the Strip, who have already settled here, and the ruthless emissaries of the corporation that claims the entire territory by treaty from the United Nations. But it soon becomes clear that Ilus is hiding a secret far more dangerous than the squabbles between two rival camps of colonists. Can Holden prevent the bloodshed and can he and the others face the unexpected pitfalls left behind by a previous, long-extinct civilization? The fourth installment of the award-winning science fiction series, which was the basis for the equally successful TV series The Expanse, resembles a true space western. Captain Jim Holden must unite the feuding settlers of a newly discovered planet in the face of an alien threat. "As Holden battles the windmills of hatred and xenophobia, the newly colonized planet slowly comes to life and finds that it doesn't like its human inhabitants one bit." - Fantasya.cz "If you haven't started this series yet, you definitely should. And if you do, you'll be glad you're returning to her universe. I highly recommend it." - Fantasy Literature "Who wouldn't be interested in a new planet with unknown life forms?" - Sarden.cz "Beautifully captured by the authors, people are just gonna be the same, only the scenery changes." - from reader feedback on Databazeknih.cz "I liked the fourth volume of The Expanse much better in its book form than the series." - from reader reviews on Databazeknih.cz "It's still incredible, Bobbie wondered, how quickly mankind has been able to move on from the question of what unimaginable intelligence created these wonders, ...that leave you in your right mind? to consider Hm, if they're not here, can I take their things?" - excerpt from the book
