The Collapse of Time: Tonya's Journey Between Worlds
One night, the whole world changed. Human history shattered, and fragments of civilisations from prehistory to the distant future reassembled into a chaotic collage. Cultures once separated by a chasm of hundreds, or even thousands, of years were suddenly brought into direct contact.
Archaeology student Tonya wakes up the next morning in a cottage in South Bohemia to find the rest of the village has vanished. The road and houses have been replaced by a deep forest. She has no idea that a nearby medieval ruin has been transformed back into a fortress from its heyday. Nor that Roman legions are camped in South Bohemia, and that mammoths, tribes of prehistoric people, and a battle robot strayed from the 23rd century are roaming the nearby plains... Not to mention a distant German tank company from the Second World War, whose commander has decided to reshape the new world in his own image.
Can Tonya figure out what caused the collapse of spacetime? And can she even survive in such a world?
Roman Bureš
A native of Kladno, he loves (besides his family) cats and dogs, Southeast Asia, ancient Rome, and MMA. He previously worked as a bodyguard and a bouncer in Prague clubs, and now puts his rich life experiences to good use in his books. He started writing relatively late, at the end of 2011, when he was simply looking for something to keep his mind active. This innocent hobby eventually grew into something much bigger, as he has since written eleven books. He has published the fantasy novel Inferium (2019) with Epocha Publishing, in which the Waffen-SS invade Hell and face off against Satan's legion. His next book, Empire (2020), is set in an alternative past where the Nazis won the war. In Planet of Idiots (2021), humanity must face a humane apocalypse. In Inferium 2: Invasion (2022), he returns to Rónan and Satan's infernal empire, which is facing invasion and fighting for its existence. Roman Bureš is known for his original ideas and high-quality writing, which is also evident in the short stories 'On Human Livestock' from the anthology In the Shadow of the Empire (2017), 'Nemesis' from its sister anthology In the Shadow of the Apocalypse (2018), and 'Welcome to Hell' in the anthology In the Shadow of Magic (2019). He published his best short stories in the collection Welcome to Hell (2022). However, he always considered The Abyss of Time to be his best story. As he matured and developed as an author, he became dissatisfied with its original version – which ultimately led to a complete rewrite of the entire trilogy.
