The revolutionary changes after 1789 turned life upside down not only in France. The sisters Stefanie and Hermína, who had to flee the country after the French Revolution, tried in vain to find asylum with relatives in Italy. Their difficult journey through Europe ends on a small estate in Bohemia, where their great-grandfather came from. But even here the situation is not idyllic. The sisters' lives are made more difficult not only by their lack of knowledge of the language, but above all by broken family ties and unresolved property relations. It takes a lot more than just goodwill to find them a new home.
