The Survivor

A homecoming will uncover deeply buried secrets…

After a long absence, Kieran and Mia, along with their newborn daughter, visit Evelyn Bay, where they both grew up and where, twelve years ago, they faced tragedy during a severe storm. Kieran lost his beloved brother and blamed himself for his death for a long time. On that fateful day, Mia argued with a friend who then disappeared without a trace. Was she swept into the sea by the tide? The truth remained buried for many years, and the lives of all involved moved on.

But the day after Kieran and Mia's return, a murdered young woman is discovered in the bay. Suddenly, it seems to the local residents that the dark past everyone tried to forget is repeating itself. Is there a connection between this murder and the events surrounding the violent death that occurred twelve years ago? And how does the tragic past shape and disrupt lives in adulthood? Rumours and unspoken questions intensify, and the town's residents look at each other with suspicion. Is it possible that the culprit is hiding among them?

I love Jane Harper’s Australia-based books… and The Survivors is my favourite of hers so far. The scenes in the caves are particularly blood-curdling.
