The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
In addition to a new translation of the famous novella Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (1886), this volume also contains the short stories The Body Snatcher (1884) and Markheim (1885). This trio of texts, loosely inspired by contemporary criminal affairs, is connected by a number of motifs: the split and vacillating nature of the human soul, the bewitching power of death, and the apparent omnipotence of reason. At the same time, Stevenson confirms his mastery of concise, evocative descriptions of settings and characters, as well as sharp, ambiguous dialogues.
