The Southern Book Club' s Guide to Killing Vampires
Patricia Campbell has never felt so inadequate. Her husband is a workaholic, her teenage children live their own lives, her senile mother-in-law requires constant care, and she herself is constantly failing to tick items off her daily to-do list. The only thing keeping her sane is her book club, a close-knit group of Charleston women united by their passion for true crime books. At club meetings, they discuss the mass murderer Manson and his Family with the same fervour as they discuss their own families. One evening after a club meeting, Patricia is brutally attacked by her elderly neighbour, and this brings the neighbour's handsome nephew, James Harris, into her life. He is a well-travelled and well-read man who awakens feelings in Patricia that she hasn't experienced in years. But when children start disappearing in another part of town and the police seem indifferent to the investigation, Patricia begins to suspect that James Harris is more Ted Bundy than Brad Pitt. The fundamental problem? James is a monster of a rather different kind—and Patricia has opened the gates of her heart and the door of her home to him. Step by step, James infiltrates Patricia's life, attempting to strip her of everything she has taken for granted, including her book club. But Patricia isn't going down without a fight, as this bloody tale of neighbourly relations gone wrong proves. Dracula stomps through the flowerbeds of Steel Magnolias in this story of a mysterious stranger who disrupts the mundane life of a women's book club in a small Southern town.
