The social context of active ageing
This collective monograph is the result of research work by the authorial team from the Department of Social Work at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. It responds to the general conviction that activity in old age positively influences the quality of life for seniors. It examines whether and how current government social policy, civil society, and the existing systems of social services genuinely support the activity and independence of the ageing population. Based on their analyses, the authors have reached a number of critical conclusions and also present suggestions for improvement. At the same time, they point out that social services and social work in the 21st century will have to address new social challenges, brought about not only by demographic phenomena but also by digitalisation, globalisation, and modern-day migration. They warn that our social systems are not prepared for this.
