The Royal Governess

The year is 1931 and young Marion Crawford is embarking on her longest journey yet. A train will take her from the rugged landscape of Scotland far to the south, to the Royal Lodge, where she is to serve as governess to two young princesses – Lilibet and Margaret Rose Windsor – for the entire summer. Marion Crawford soon wins the favour of the entire Royal Family and becomes an integral part of it. With her typically Scottish pragmatism and sense of justice, she is the right person for the young princesses to confide in. Instead of just one summer, she ends up staying for eighteen long years. Together with the Royal Family, she lives through the wild turbulence of the twentieth century, endures with them an unexpected abdication and an unwanted accession to the throne, the hardships of the Second World War, and the ups and downs of true first love. When the newly eighteen-year-old Lilibet falls in love, no one in the family or staff believes that Prince Philip would be a suitable husband for the future Queen of Great Britain. No one, that is, except Marion Crawford. Love also comes into Marion's life, and she is therefore determined to support young Elizabeth in her efforts to marry Philip. Until the young couple receives the King's blessing, Marion cannot leave her post in the Royal Family. The following years are full of painful waiting and mounting tension as Marion has to choose which side she is on. At that moment, she has no idea that one day a betrayal will occur that will sever her bond with the Royal Family forever…
