The pure joys of my life
A dumped lioness is looking for her human. You know. Devotion guaranteed
When a scrawny circus lioness tries to join businessman and backwoodsman Nat Jessel in the woods, Nat is not at all happy about it. He falls down a hill among the trees to save himself in his old Ford, but he cannot escape the kind-hearted animal. Eilleen, as he later named the lioness, is so affectionate and devoted that he doesn't have the heart to drive her back into the wild. He lives with her in a log cabin and drives her around his business district in an old Ford, where he sells warm underpants and cute aprons.
The author depicts Eillen and Nate's friendship with such touching insight, yet unsentimental, witty and humorous insight, that we find ourselves falling for both characters with gusto, falling in love with them and rooting for them every step of the way. Nate a little more, because getting the beautiful Virginia does take some effort. So let's head to the American Southwest to experience a true friendship between man and animal. Even if it is an old fat circus lioness.
