The Power of Myth is a book transcription of the famous six-hour interview series between American anthropologist, religious historian, and philosopher Joseph Campbell (1904–1987) and moderator Bill Moyers. These insightful explorations into a wide variety of cultures, civilisations, and religions are dedicated to the changing role of mythology in human history and its meaning in today's globalised world, where it still significantly influences the ideas and attitudes of modern people. For instance, Campbell's ideas fundamentally influenced his friend George Lucas in the conception of the Star Wars film trilogy. The publication of “The Power of Myth” was initiated by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis as an editor at the New York publishing house Doubleday.
