The other mothers hate me
A has-been pop star in the role of a detective—how will this turn out?
Florence is a former pop starlet, a down-on-her-luck divorcee, and a mother. Although the inglorious end to her career was caused by the unplanned conception of her son, Dylan, she wouldn't trade him for anything in the world. It is precisely because of him that she is willing to put up with all the stuck-up, rich mothers from the prestigious boys' school that Dylan attends at his father's wish. Unlike them, she has no partner, no money, and no career, and to top it all off, she is not a proper Brit, but a chaotic American with a big mouth. However, the strength of her maternal devotion is put to an unexpected test—during a school trip, the most obnoxious and spoiled boy from Dylan's class, Alfie Risby, disappears. That wouldn't be so terrible, except Florence discovers Alfie's rucksack and diary in Dylan's room. Will Florence, in the role of Sherlock, manage to find her Doctor Watson and crack the case before her son gets into trouble from which not even the strongest mother's love can save him?
A wonderfully imperfect heroine, damn cheeky humour, and a plot that grabs you and won't let go.
— Fran Littlewood, author of Amazing Grace Adams
A fun, compelling, and brilliantly written novel whose heroine cleverly balances on the edge of likeability and insufferability.
— Lauren Bravo, writer
An irresistibly witty novel about the lengths mums are willing to go for their children.
