Nationalism and Social Policy in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia
In her original dissertation, the author deals with social security issues during the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. In the analytical chapters, he examines how Heydrich's "carrot and stick" policy affected the distribution of pensions and benefits, how it affected the availability of social and health care, and how it affected the accessibility of social and health care, respectively. the functioning of social insurance of the population in the occupied area of Bohemia and Moravia. Against the background of the rise of Czech and German nationalism and the formation of a new Czech state ideology in the 1930s and 1940s, it also examines the system, institutions and instruments that created a socially protective framework for the care of the Czech and German population in the Protectorate. Using the examples of labour, health and family policy, it defines two basic features of the state welfare system in the Protectorate: the principle of racism and the principle of segregation of care by nationality. Šustrová places the topic in the broader issue of collaboration, the legitimacy of the regime and Czech national ideology. The book is published in cooperation with the Masaryk Institute and the Archives of the CAS, v. in. i.
