The numbers don't lie
Numbers don’t lie. But what truth do they tell?
What truth do numbers tell? And how should we interpret them?
In his book, the internationally acclaimed Canadian scientist of Czech origin, Vaclav Smil, takes us on a fact-finding journey. Using surprising statistics and insightful graphs, he challenges our often comfortable ways of thinking and debunks modern myths about how the world works.
The 71 thematic chapters offer not only new information and fascinating examples from energy, transport and ecology, but also answers to questions like: Why aren't electric cars yet environmentally friendly? Why is it so difficult to predict how severe the current pandemic will be? And how do humanity and the inventions of the modern world affect life on our planet?
