Starting a family is actually much more fun than you might think. When a new husband discovers that instead of a wife, he has a bloated whale with the appetite of a hungry tour group, he can either run away or be a hero and stick it out. Because after nine months, he becomes a father. Around the same time, his wife realises that the rosy idyll from the expectant mothers' handbook is pure fantasy, and it's her turn to prove her heroism. Although she's no longer a whale, a tough ride through a reality bordering on social drama and pure horror begins for both of them with the new family member.

The book guides the reader through the colourful world of parenthood. In a humorous form, it offers a hefty dose of exaggeration, doesn't pull any punches with any parenting topic, and makes fun of everything and everyone. Most of all, it pokes fun at the author herself as a new mother.
