The media revolution

This book presents a contemplation of the factors that led to the fundamental transformation of European society during the process of Christianisation. It primarily examines the role of ritual, the significance of the mosaic as a new visual medium, and new forms of depiction in the 4th and 5th centuries. Using the example of the Baptistery of Neon in Ravenna, it then offers a comprehensive analysis of the baptismal ritual and its connection to the rich mosaic decorations found there.
