The Land of Albrecht von Wallenstein

Following the success of the publications Through the Landscape of the First Přemyslids and Through the Landscape of Charles IV, Otomar Dvořák and Josef Pepson Snětivý present their eighth joint book, titled Through the Landscape of Albrecht von Wallenstein.

The Duke of Friedland is not an exclusively controversial figure in our history – and certainly not a dark one. Few Czech personalities have managed to make such a significant mark on the European stage, and the fruits of his ambitions still embellish our charming country to this day.

In this book, the authors follow his dramatic life from an unexpected angle: they visited the places that shaped him, or which he, in turn, shaped through his own efforts. Otomar focused on the history of the towns, castles, and various regions and their integration into Wallenstein's life story, while Pepson explored each location with a camera in hand, gathering interesting facts from sources, local chroniclers, museum curators, and other individuals to supplement the narrative with further context and remarkable nearby sites.

This exploratory journey has gifted the authors with a wealth of knowledge and experiences, the most interesting of which they now share with readers. Readers can look forward not only to a vivid picture of Wallenstein's life and landscape but also to a large number of illustrations and photographs. Some are unique, as the authorial duo managed to gain access to places where entry is virtually impossible.
