First half of the 18th century. A time of great works of art, but also of violent recatholization, slavery and oppression. Well-known Czech authors have dealt with this fascinating period in their own way. With humour and exaggeration, it recounts the stories of the Jesuit missionary Antonín Koniáš, "a voracious destroyer of Czech books" and a religious fanatic. But was Father Konias really like that? In Zuzana Koubková's stories, he is more of a misguided zealot who, thanks to his inquisitive nature and lack of self-preservation, sometimes gets involved in various adventures, mysteries and crimes. He encounters non-Catholics, but also a vampire or a wandering vampire. He not only searches for forbidden books, but also for the mystery of a dead dog or a stolen pig. His helpers are his fellow members of the Society of Jesus, a deaf artilleryman, an eccentric opera diva or a professional bounty hunter...
