The inconvenient Jesus

Many of Jesus' demands seem very demanding to us today - e.g. his commandment of love of enemies and the requirement of poverty. But if we place these claims and Jesus' sovereign way of teaching, his miracles, and his proclamation of judgment in the historical context of the time, we find that the surprise and provocation of his words and actions were even greater than we have yet imagined.

The presentation is consistently historical, cultural and theological. The book is introduced with a discussion of the changes in the interpretation of Scripture in modern times and critically assesses these changes. The last two chapters deal with Jesus' passion and resurrection: proves the historical reality of Jesus' resurrection by analyzing historical texts and contemporary contexts.
