The importance of nursing in preventive cardiology

Cardiovascular diseases are generally the result of a combination of several risk factors that may be controllable and uncontrollable. Influencable factors should be addressed through prevention activities.

This monograph is based on the results of a research project entitled „ Interventional procedures in preventive cardiology“.

The structure of the book is based on the framework of the project brief. After the introductory part, which is devoted to the project description, there follows the methodology, description of the target group selection and its characteristics. This chapter concludes with the data collection and processing procedure. The following chapter describes the importance of nursing in health promotion and prevention activities. Models that are health-oriented are also briefly characterized. The third chapter focuses on the prevention of cardiovascular disease. The emphasis here is on comprehensive preventive care.

Chapters 4, 5, 6, 7 will introduce the reader to non-pharmacological approaches in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Among the influencing factors, physical activity, smoking, dietary habits and stress are described. Chapter 8 deals with preventive cardiology counselling, focusing on ensuring the effectiveness of counselling and describing the importance of nurse involvement in the use of non-pharmacological interventions. The following section explores ways in which the nurse can implement individual or group interventions in practice. The penultimate chapter is entitled „ Selected socioeconomic aspects in the context of preventive interventions and treatment of cardiovascular diseases“. The research results also contributed to the last chapter, namely „ Strategies for using nurse-led interventions in preventive cardiology“.

The monograph is intended for nurses, students and all professionals and those interested in preventive activities in cardiology. It should help everyone to understand the meaning of nursing, or rather. nurses in primary, secondary and tertiary prevention.
