The History of Norway

This updated edition offers a comprehensive look at the development of the Norwegian state from the earliest times to the present day. It traces the period of Viking expansion, the gradual Christianisation and the long union with Denmark and Sweden, which fundamentally shaped Norwegian identity. Great attention is paid to the process of gaining independence in the 19th century and the building of a modern nation. The authors explore the political, economic and cultural transformations of the society, placing them in a broader European context.
