Arcadia #7
THE ORIGIN OF A MYSTERIOUS ROBOT WILL BRING ARCADIA TO THE BRINK OF DESTRUCTION.
Antiquarians Kuba Nedomý and cyborg Dědek Čuchák are the biggest experts on robots in the entire lunar habitat of Arcadia. However, no one has seen anything like Bejby in the entire history of the Moon's colonisation. Every robot was created in a factory on an assembly line. But Bejby is different.
It evolved, or perhaps was born, from an artefact called the Golden Orange, which is precisely how Kuba and Dědek Čuchák came to possess it – under dire circumstances, as the mood of Arcadia's citizens turns against robots. Fanatical activists are hunting them down and destroying them on a massive scale. But Kuba and Dědek do not hesitate to stand on the right side.
They help the persecuted robots, with considerable assistance from the Chinese warrior Su Wang-li and the cunning police captain Luigi Mantella. But something keeps getting in their way: the mystery of Bejby's origin. Solving it nearly breaks their legs…
ONDŘEJ NEFF
He was born in Prague in 1945. He wrote his first sci-fi story at the age of ten and has dedicated his life to the genre. He prefers classic adventure hard sci-fi (the Arcadia, Millennium, and Lord of the Blue Sword series), which also includes his new work, Hu! The short stories of Dědek Čuchák are part of the Arcadia cycle. His dystopia, Tma (Darkness), also garnered attention from mainstream readers. He has published shorter texts in a number of short story collections (Vejce naruby, Zepelín na Měsíci, Bůh s. r. o., etc.). He is a lifelong fan of Jules Verne, having retold ten of his novels for a new generation of readers. To these, he added his own steampunk trilogy, The Secret of Five Continents. Ondřej Neff lives near Prague. Under the influence of his wife, actress Ljuba Krbová, he swapped karate for Chinese Tai Chi and rides an electric bike instead of a motorbike. He enjoys photography, walking his dogs in the forest, and sticking his nose into politics on his web magazine, Neviditelný pes (The Invisible Dog). He is preparing the fifth volume for the Lord of the Blue Sword series, and what comes next remains to be seen.
SAŠA RAŠILOV
Saša Rašilov (III) was born in Zbraslav, Prague, into a film family (his father a cameraman, his grandfather an actor, and his sister and brother also work in film). He studied at the Prague Conservatory, in the music and drama department. After graduating from the conservatory, he moved on to study acting at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU) (1990–94). He has performed in many theatres and is currently a permanent member of the National Theatre ensemble.
In addition to his stage appearances, he has dozens of television, film, and radio roles to his name.
Saša has also made a name for himself in the field of voice acting. He started by voicing the character of Mickey Mouse and is now the only person in the Czech Republic authorised to dub the cartoon mouse. Besides the Disney character, his voice can be heard in the first three Star Wars films (as Obi-Wan Kenobi), in the film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory voicing Willy Wonka (J. Depp), and as the main character, Rodney, in the animated fairytale Robots. He has even received an award for his voice work; in 2003, he received the prestigious František Filipovský Award for the film The Man Who Wasn't There. Today, he is one of the most sought-after voice actors in the country.
Narrating audiobooks fits perfectly into his wide repertoire.
