The final installment of the cult crime series Millennium
The body of a beggar with amputated fingers and toes is found in a Stockholm park. It looks like an unfortunate death of a homeless man, but pathologist Fredrika Nyman can't shake the feeling that something is wrong with the dead man, so she contacts Mikael Blomkvist.
The case catches Mikael's attention because the beggar has been heard several times muttering something about the Swedish Defence Minister Johannes Forsell. Was it just the rantings of a paranoid lunatic, or did he really have something to do with the government?
Mikael asks Lisbeth Salander for help. However, she left Sweden after the funeral of Holger Palmgren and has not been heard from. No one knows that she is staying in Moscow to deal with her sister Camilla once and for all. She decided: he's no longer going to be the hunted prey. She will now become a beast herself.
