The Forgotten Marshal
A Czech patriot and a remarkable figure of the Austrian monarchy in several respects. As a young cadet, he graduated from the prestigious Theresian Military Academy and eventually ended his military career with the rank of Field Marshal Lieutenant. He spoke ten languages, painted several thousand watercolours and dozens of oil paintings, contributed to numerous newspapers and periodicals, and in the later stages of his life, became famous as a promoter of a healthy lifestyle, abstinence, and vegetarianism. He could often be seen in Prague and its surroundings in a walking suit and—sandals!
The author's intention is therefore to introduce this now practically unknown and forgotten personality, who was a colourful part of the prominent Czech patriotic and intellectual society at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.
