The Fog

John Holman, a capable employee of the Department of the Environment, is investigating a secret Ministry of Defence base hidden near a sleepy village on Salisbury Plain. An unexpected earthquake swallows his car and almost him along with it, releasing a strange fog into the air that has lain dormant underground for years. Holman survives, but after his encounter with the fog, he temporarily loses his mind.
The fog moves across the landscape as if it has a will of its own, forcing the unfortunate souls who cross its path to commit suicide or turning them into homicidal maniacs who kill brutally and without a shred of remorse. Often, even worse things happen – respected citizens, including teachers and clergy, commit a wide range of crimes, from lewd public urination to paedophilia. A Boeing 747 captain, struck by madness, intentionally crashes his plane into one of London's tower blocks.
The disaster soon reaches terrifying proportions – the fog grows relentlessly, and there seems to be nothing that can stop it. Entire towns and villages are threatened, and apparently only one chance of salvation remains: Holman, who is immune to the fog's effects, must try to destroy the insidious enemy from within, even though he has no idea what dangers may be lurking for him inside the misty haze.
