The edge of the sky
A dark crime thriller from the Šluknov Hook
This dark crime thriller from the Šluknov Hook region captures human fates as torn as the landscape bisected by the state border. The novel, with its unsettling atmosphere, describes a crime investigation that reaches into the painful history of this territory during the Second World War and the current problems of a socially excluded locality.
Elen is trying to salvage what's left of her life. Her teenage daughter, Viky, is surviving only through pain. The former teacher, Vilma, has lost her loved ones and her dignity. They are all on the edge, and it would take very little for them to fall on the wrong side. When detective Elen is called to Varnsdorf to investigate the remains of a newborn, she saves another child shortly after. But in a region that never sleeps and reopens old wounds, it's not wise to seek the truth. Elen must first uncover her own scarred past before she can help others.
