The Dunwich Horror

An invisible monster ravages the countryside and kills livestock and people

A story by H. P. Lovecraft (1890–1937), an American writer considered one of the most significant authors of horror and the creator of so-called cosmic horror.
The Dunwich Horror takes place in the remote village of Dunwich, Massachusetts, home to the strange Whateley family. An old sorcerer, Old Whateley, is raising his grandson Wilbur, whose origin is shrouded in mystery and connected to dark forces. Wilbur grows quickly and displays an unusual knowledge of the occult. He tries to open a gateway to other dimensions and summon the entity known as Yog-Sothoth. After his violent death at the university in Arkham, terrifying events begin to unfold in Dunwich. An invisible monster ravages the countryside, killing livestock and people. The story emphasises humanity's powerlessness in the face of cosmic horror and the incomprehensible forces of the universe.
