What really happened then, in the middle of the moors and marshes?
Carelessness during her daily morning swim leads Kate Marshall to the hospital, where she meets Jean Julings. She tells her the heartbreaking story of how her three-year-old grandson Charlie went missing eleven years ago while camping in a place called Devil's Way.
Kate, still shaken up about it, she almost drowned, I agree, that he and Tristan Harper will take the case and try to find out what could have happened back then. When Kate and Tristan's detective agency begins to investigate the events of that fateful night, they discover that Jean has a troubled past, and he's not telling them the whole truth.
What happened then on the Devil's Way in the midst of the moors and marshes? Was Charlie kidnapped? Or has he fallen into the river that disappears into the Devil's Gulch?
When Kate and Tristan find out that the social worker, who was interested in Jean and her daughter Becky at the time, was found brutally murdered shortly thereafter, since Charlie disappeared, they're gonna have to rethink everything, what they thought of the case up to that point...
