Anika is raised by her father, the town executioner Jakub, who teaches her his craft and prepares her for a difficult life on the fringes of society. However, when he is treacherously murdered before her eyes and their home is burned down, the girl finds herself alone in a world full of prejudice and violence. Without the protection her father's cursed position afforded her, she must now rely solely on her own skills and courage. On her journey to uncover the murderers, Anika gains unexpected allies from among those she would previously have met only in the torture chamber. She finds herself increasingly drawn to the mysterious Darko, while simultaneously distancing herself from everything she once knew as the executioner's daughter. Nevertheless, she is determined to seek justice and avenge her father's death. JITKA JEŽKOVÁ She graduated from the Prague Conservatory and the Department of Cultural Theory at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. She first appeared on television in 1994 in the series Prima sezóna (Top Season), and a year later in the TV Nova series Nováci. Since then, she has regularly appeared in television productions and series (Jetelín, Případy 1. oddělení (The First Department), Rapl, Obchoďák (The Mall), Doktoři z Počátků (Doctors from the Beginning), Expozitura (The Unit)) and films (Ostravak Ostravski, Intimity (Intimacies), Početí mého mladšího bratra (The Conception of My Younger Brother), Báječná léta pod psa (Those Wonderful Years That Sucked)). She has made guest appearances at the Činoherní klub, the Divadlo Palace, and the Divadlo v Řeznické. She has been successfully involved in voice acting since the age of 14. She has lent her voice to actresses such as Kate Winslet in the film Titanic and Liv Tyler in The Lord of the Rings. In 2004, she received the František Filipovský Award for Best Female Voice Performance for the film The Theory of Flight.
