The call of the penguins

When little Daisy’s laughter rings out in Veronica McCreedy’s lavish mansion, it reawakens a thirst for adventure in the eighty-seven-year-old millionaire. She sets off to Australia and the Falkland Islands with Robert Saddlebow, who is preparing a series of nature programmes, to see her beloved penguins. Meanwhile, Veronica's grandson Patrick is in Canada searching for his father and making some truly shocking discoveries. His ex-girlfriend, Terry, has stayed on Locket Island, but her outlook on the future might be about to change, as she has just found out she is pregnant with Patrick's child. Hazel Prior's novel is a mosaic of life stories full of unexpected twists, painful disappointments, reunions, and new hopes. Its heroes are people searching for love and for themselves, and their constant inspiration is, of course, the penguins!
