The Beast
A Murder Code That No One Can See
Bioinformatics professor Theo Cray is not having the best of mornings. The ice machine isn't working, and to make matters worse, the police are trying to break into his motel room. He only finds out he's the prime suspect in the brutal murder of his former student after he's been ruled out. It seems the young woman was mauled by a bear in the Montana woods. But Professor Cray's profession has taught him to see patterns where others only see chaos. And so he notices something everyone else missed. Something unnatural. Something clearly done by a human hand.
Theo realises this atrocity wasn't committed by any animal, but by a person, and that it certainly wasn't their first time. Since the police don't believe him, it becomes clear that he is probably the only person who can stop the killer. Although Theo is more familiar with digital codes and microbes than with evaluating forensic evidence, he must now apply all his skills to a whole new area of research. All while staying one step ahead of a dangerously inventive serial killer... whose existence no one but him believes in. An brutally addictive debut novel from magician and illusionist Andrew Mayne, star of the TV show Don't Trust Andrew Mayne, who has worked with the greatest masters of his craft, including David Copperfield.
