The Adventures of Uncle Eskimo
Jan Welzl (born 1868), a native of Zábřež, better known as Eskymo Welzl, was a famous and mysterious polar hunter and gold miner. He made his living as a gold miner, fisherman, itinerant peddler, and even became chief of an Eskimo tribe for a time. In 1928 he stopped briefly in Brno and gave a series of talks. His unstylized literary narrative was first captured by Rudolf Těsnohlídek in his book Eskymo Welzl, which was published under the subtitle "Memoirs of a Czech Polar Hunter and Gold Digger". The point of the literary texts is the failure of the hardened globetrotter in European conditions and his voluntary return to distant lands, this time Canada. From "The Adventures of Uncle Eskimo" reads: Karel Höger.
