Free in Europe

The autobiography of a Czech-German journalist and writer describes the extremely exciting life story of an educated woman. Her humility does not allow her to speak of herself in superlatives. On the contrary. Her lifelong commitment to presenting only the truth, ideally verified from several independent sources, can be felt even in her most personal text, her memoirs.

We get to know the life of a girl growing up in the south of Bohemia, who, despite a stop at her studies in Prague, eventually settled in Germany for more than thirty years as a journalist for Radio Free Europe due to the occupation.

"It's like holding an audiobook. We hear what we read. It will be because if we were to assign a specific voice to Free Europe in memory, it would be that of Lída Rakusánová. We carry it around in our heads like the voice of Ivan Medek, who was the voice of the Voice of America." Ivan Hoffman
