Streets of Laredo
The conclusion of the magnificent Lonesome Dove tetralogy about the twilight of the American West
Streets of Laredo is the final book in the epic Lonesome Dove tetralogy, the pinnacle of Larry McMurtry's unique perspective on the American West. It takes place in the 1890s, a period when the era of the Wild West is definitively over, the wilderness is irrevocably giving way to civilisation, and Texas is increasingly criss-crossed by railways and telegraph wires.
Captain Woodrow Call, Augustus McCrae's former partner, is now a bounty hunter. His task is to track down a brutal young Mexican bandit. The Captain travels with a suave city official from the East, a dim-witted deputy sheriff, and one of the last members of the Hat Creek outfit, Pea Eye Parker, who is happily married to Lorena, Gus McCrae's former lover. The long chase takes the group to the last wild corners of the West, to a filthy hole known as Crow Town, and finally to the vast and unforgiving plains of the Texas borderlands.
The book Streets of Laredo is being published in Czech for the first time.

What they wrote about the book:
Streets of Laredo is a stunning conclusion to the literary portrait of the American West and Texas, Larry McMurtry's homeland, which the author created over three decades. It is also one of his most moving and melancholic novels… The book's heroes are finely crafted down to the last detail, just as we've come to expect from McMurtry.

Fabulous! Full of violence, humour and painful sorrow in a tale of heroism and regret… I'll eat my hat if you can put this book down.
