Stories of athletes kissed by the muse

Vlasta Burian, Johnny Weissmüller, Erich Tylinek, Sonja Henie, Lino Ventura, Dick Francis, Bud Spencer, Yuri Vlasov, Josef Nálepa, Toller Cranston. In the order of the year of their birth, the book contains ten stories of these personalities who dedicated their lives to two seemingly so different phenomena as different as sport and art. In both of them, they have achieved great fame on a global scale. In the book we read, for example, that Vlasta Burian, the King of Comedians, was not only a football goalkeeper for Sparta in Prague, but that he loved sport passionately - at least as much as he loved theatre and film. That Erich Tylinek, hockey goalie and later a great photographer, was almost torn apart by a furious beast in the lion's cage. That Sonja Henie, the phenomenal figure skater and later Hollywood film star, was at one time an admirer of Adolf Hitler, had an above-average attraction to men and a desire for material wealth. Lino Ventura probably would not have become a famous actor if he had not suffered a serious injury in the match as European champion. All of these personalities have been helped by sport, to make their life stories more than fulfilling on two levels. In addition to their often dormant artistic talent, sport has developed in them a strong will, ambition, self-confidence and faith in their own strength. And also the ability to realize what it takes to not only do but also sacrifice in the journey to success. PhDr. Petr Feldstein (* 1943) Petr Feldstedt is a journalist, publicist, writer. He is the author of and co-author of many documentary series and independent documentaries, mostly sports-themed documentaries. Among the books published after 1990, let us mention Football on behalf of Masopust (2003, extended. ed. 2012), And Life Went On (2012), Gold Medals (col. aut., 2012), Life Full of Horses (2013), 21 Returns to Olympic History (2021). In 2011 he received the Jiří Kössl Award from the Czech Olympic Academy and in 2013 the Ota Pavel Award from the Czech Olympic Committee.
