Stories about Erik
The book contains three separate short stories with a single main protagonist, a mixed-race Native American named Erik. A man who cruelly punishes criminals thanks to his marksmanship and other abilities inherited from his ancestors.
In the first story, “I Saw It, Said the Strange Fella,” Major Slik writes down the memories of three old men about a shoot-out in their town years ago. The second, “My Dad’s a Hero,” is essentially a paraphrase of the classic quote, “Villain or hero, we’re all one family,” from a well-known film. The point of the third story, “The Sign of the Mušajt,” is a historical fact – the long-standing effort of Native Americans in the United States of America to gain the same civil rights by law as others. In the story, Erik is the guide and protector of a United States Congressman and his daughter on their journey to the Ute tribe reservation in Utah. And to protect the two of them, Erik’s own life will be in danger. The names of the Native American tribes and the places where the story takes place are real, as are the historical dates. Ufologists will also find something to enjoy here.
The book is written in a lively style, with dialogue that is often humorous. In addition to some gritty scenes, there are also situations that will tug at the heartstrings. And there is love, too!
