The complete H. P. Lovecraft collection
The Shadow Out of Time, the fourth volume in the series, concludes the complete collection of fictional writings from one of the founders of modern fantasy prose, H. P. Lovecraft.
The book contains the extensive novel At the Mountains of Madness, followed by significant short stories from his later period, including The Shadow over Innsmouth, The Thing on the Doorstep, and The Shadow Out of Time. As he approached forty, Lovecraft's life calmed and brightened, though he continued to live in considerable poverty. His family's savings were dwindling, and the poorly paid editorial work he did on other authors' texts barely sustained him.
Surprisingly, Lovecraft was far more focused in his own writing, and in the handful of stories from his final years, he experimented thoughtfully. At the same time, he corresponded vividly with dozens of friends and authors, becoming a 'confessor, advisor, and guardian' to almost an entire generation of American fantasy literature authors. And as a fascinating personality, he endures in his work to this day.
