Snowman is considered by many to be the best novel in the Harry Hole series
It's November. Oslo receives its first snowfall. Birte Becker comes home from work and praises her husband and son for the beautiful snowman they built in the garden. But they didn't build any snowmen. The whole family stares out the window in amazement. The son notices that the snowman is facing the house and his black eyes are looking straight in. Birte is gone in the morning. She disappeared without a trace. Only the snowman has her scarf around his neck. Chief Inspector Harry Hole receives a mysterious letter signed "Snowman" and a new colleague, Katrine Bratt, who is no match for Snowman in the mystery department.
Harry later discovers that Birte Becker is not the first case. A number of similar disappearances come to light and it turns out that they have common features, especially that all the women were married and all disappeared with the first snow. The investigation is even more intense than usual and even more complicated for Harry because it involves his new colleague and a very close person. Harry has no idea what evil he will have to face this time and how he will have to prove what he is.
