Sigmund Winter: Master Campanus

Reading from the popular historical novel by Zikmund Winter. Directed by Jiří Rollo in 1967, it stars Karel Höger. Karel Höger in his book From the Actor's Notebook: "In reading it, I tried to create a period setting, as illustrated by the old language and phraseology permeating the style of the historian Zikmund Wintr. I was helped by the memory of a story told by Martin Frič, who during the war was thinking of making a film about Petr Brandl. He wanted to first expose the structure of the painting canvas on the negative of the film strip and only then to shoot the film story on this prepared material. I tried to do something similar: The historical backdrop was to remain in the background like an old canvas on which I projected the tragic fate of a great human and political mistake by reading it myself.
