Sherlock Holmes 3: The Hound of the Baskervilles
Baskerville dog: The darkest case of Sherlock Holmes
The legend of the hellhound, who out of revenge pursues the descendants of the Baskerville family, seems to Watson to be a frightening one in London, and to Holmes very interesting, especially in connection with the fate of the late Sir Charles Baskerville. At Baskerville Castle, in a bleak region full of treacherous moors and bogs, the case doesn't seem any brighter. Rather the opposite. The fog seems to dissolve the boundaries between superstition and reality, a terrible howling that makes the blood run cold in the veins. The phantom, a materialized legend, takes on frighteningly realistic contours and the new heir to the family title and fortune finds his life in danger. And not only him, there is danger for everyone in the bogs.
The Hound of the Baskervilles is an exquisite combination of elements of the supernatural, the gothic novel and the classic detective story. This is one of the best-known and best-read Sherlock Holmes stories, and he has never had a darker case in his career.
