Wonderful story, I liked the connection between the two storylines, the characters nicely portrayed.

Beth and Michael have a 5-year-old son, Jake, who is seriously ill. He needs a kidney transplant, but unfortunately neither can be a donor. Beth's mother, Mary, died and didn't get to tell her who her father was. When Beth goes through Mary's things, she finds a newspaper clipping along with a letter. And so begins the unravelling of the mystery.
The second storyline takes place in 1976, in which we gradually learn how it all actually happened.
Once I got into the book, I couldn't tear myself away from it and had to read until I was even.

A very nice book, although compared to the author's other two books (The Letter and The Key) it seems to me to be the weakest. The plot was very slow to get going, only later did the story pick up the right momentum. One of the scenes described is diametrically opposed to reality, which I found disturbing. But the book is definitely worth reading.
