Scorching summer
In the small Irish town of Crossmore in the early 1990s, everyone knows what a proper life should look like. Lucy is expected to fall for the boy from the neighbouring farm, marry, have children, and stay where she grew up. However, Lucy has a growing suspicion that this kind of life is not for her.
The reason is Susanna – a friend to whom she is bound by something far deeper, more dangerous, and more beautiful than Lucy can admit. Over the course of one summer, their friendship grows into a secret, passionate affair. Their love blossoms in secret – in letters, glances, stolen moments, and the heat of a summer that burns just as intensely as the fear of discovery.
Lucy learns to lead a double life: an obedient daughter on the outside, but inside a girl trembling with first love, desire, and the fear of judgment. Yet in a conservative community where nothing stays hidden and where religion, family, and tradition draw the lines of what is and is not allowed, every decision seems equally cruel.
