Scarlino - Tuscan Fejetons

“Scarlino” is a collection of memories, short stories, observations and personal experiences from the author's time in the magical, hospitable and warm-hearted region of Tuscany. Jan Kříž was born in 1939. He and his three siblings grew up in their parents' mill in Beroun. – The Saga of the Kříž Family, which describes their relationship with this town, is just being published. He studied mechanical engineering in Prague, though he never finished his degree, as he was drawn to music. In 1964, he left for Germany as a professional musician, where he perfected his German at university. He then lived in Switzerland, where he worked in ventilation and air conditioning. At the same time, he taught it at an evening technical college in Zurich. After short study stays in Scotland and the USA, he returned to Switzerland to manage the American company Johnson Controls. As a product manager, he travelled through and got to know almost all of Western Europe. In the late 1990s, he moved permanently to Italy, where he completed his Italian studies with an exam at the University of Siena. He began writing and publishing in Zurich, initially technical literature and marketing texts, later also short stories and travelogues. A number of his short stories have been published in Italy. “Scarlino” is his first book in Czech.
