Russian–Czech equivalence of proprioceptive vocabulary
This monograph from the fields of onomastics and translation studies attempts to provide a comprehensive look at the somewhat neglected issue of transferring proper nouns, so-called propria, between Czech and Russian, and partly also between English and Russian. In the introduction, the author describes methods for transferring propria, some of which are adopted from existing literature, some are newly introduced, and some are modified (in particular, the rules for transcription from Czech to Russian have been criticised and adjusted). Subsequently, the author determines which transfer method is suitable for the respective type of proprium and text genre. The appendices to the work include the most commonly used transcription and transliteration tables. This work is intended for translators, Russianists, Bohemists, journalists, travel agency employees, and anyone who encounters texts containing foreign Russian and Czech propria.
