Ruler

The Prince (Italian: Il Principe), a book by Niccolò Machiavelli, is the most famous work of this politician, diplomat, and writer, who is widely considered the founder of political science.
The book is a practical guide for a ruler on how to gain power, how to maintain it, and how not to lose it. Machiavelli completely separates politics from Christian morality and ideals, describing politics as it actually is, rather than how it should be. The famous (though often oversimplified) principle is that the end justifies the means – a ruler must not fear cunning, deceit, or violence if it serves to preserve the state.
