Rooting Out

Christmas is coming, and snow is covering a small Sudeten town on the Czech-Polish border. Julia arrives in the town from Germany to scatter the ashes of her grandmother, who was expelled from the borderlands after the war. Her meeting with Tomáš, who is running away from his otherness, will be fateful for them both. As will their encounter with the priest, who has taken great care in preparing for Christmas. The story offers a glimpse into the near future, where, just as decades ago, zones are being marked out where some people are forbidden to enter.
